This week we bring you a guest blog from Venus Bridal. Here they give you their thoughts on things to consider before your first trip out to look for your perfect wedding dress…….

Wedding dress shopping has to be one of the most exciting, if not the most exciting, shopping trips a girl can ever go on. After all what could be more thrilling than shopping for the dress you’ve always dreamed of wearing? Despite being one of the most important shopping excursions of your life, there are certain points you should be aware of and take into consideration to ensure your wedding dress fitting day is as successful as it can be.

Take your wedding shoes with you

You might not have bought your wedding shoes yet, but you’ll probably have an idea of the style of shoe you would like to wear and the size of heel. Taking a pair of shoes that are similar to the style of shoe and heel size you are likely to wear on your wedding day will give you a more accurate picture of how the dress looks and its distance from the ground.

The last thing any bride would want would be to buy a dress, then when you came to put it on the morning of the wedding, find that a dress which should drape tantalisingly on the ground lies five inches above it due to your killer heeled wedding shoes!

Take a strapless bra with you

From sexy strapless dresses to one stylish shoulder gowns, many styles of wedding dresses don’t allow you to wear a conventional bra with straps. Depending on what style of wedding dress you opt for and so you’re not confined to wearing specific styles, it is a good idea to take a strapless bra on the fitting day with you.

A nude coloured bra will mean it blends in with your skin more naturally and will be less likely to be noticed under your wedding gown, regardless of what colour of dress you opt for.

Sit down!

You’ve seen the wedding dress of your dreams, you’ve tried it on and it looks fabulous, the perfect fit. Although you love it stood up in front of the mirror will it fit so well, feel as comfortable and look as great when you’re sat down?

Weddings naturally require the bride, groom and the guests to sit down at certain points, especially for the wedding breakfast. Sitting down to the wedding speeches or meal to a button popping off the back of the dress or a zip tearing at the seams, must be high on the list of every bride-to-be’s worse wedding nightmares!

Make sure that you feel comfortable in the dress and it fits you no matter what position you are in by sitting down during the fitting session

Think about fluctuations in your weight

What might be the perfect fit now, might not be in 12 months’ time! Only you will know how prone you are to weight fluctuations or if you’re likely to experience anything else that might affect your weight or body shape between the time of the dress fitting and the day of the wedding, such as a pregnancy or a strict diet regime during the run up to the wedding! If you are prone to fluctuations in weight, it might be a good idea to refrain from going wedding dress shopping until closer to the date of the wedding.

How will you wear your hair?

Different hairstyles can affect the look of a wedding gown. For example, wearing your hair up if you’re planning on wearing a strapless gown will make your neckline look significantly longer, compared to if you wear your hair down.

It is therefore a good idea to think about how you want to wear your hair on your big day and how your choice of hairstyle might affect how the dress looks, prior to committing to a particular style of dress.
